May 16, 2009 TriState BBQ Fstival sponsored by CenturyTel . Now in its 4th year, and better than ever! Last year, 80 teams from around the Southeast Competed for their share of over $10,000 in prize money and bragging rights. This championship is popular among the spectators and competitors alike, because winners advance to the Triple Crown and the Jack Daniels International competition. IN 2008, proceeds from the Festival were given to the Make-A-Wish foundation.

Sponsors are needed to cover the cost of the meal, publicity, flags and/or wreathes for Veterans’ graves and tent/table & chair rentals. Any money remaining after covering expenses will be donated to the Veterans Alliance, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving Veterans.

June 5 & 6, 2009 Wiregrass Sports Hall of Fame Tournament and Induction Banquet Since 1990, athletes, coaches and people who have influenced the sports world in the Wiregrass have been honored for their accomplishments through the formal banquet. Inductees’ accomplishments are enshrined with a permanent memorial on display in the lobby of the Dothan Civic Center. The golf tournament is a great way to socialize with the inductees in an informal environment , and proceeds from both the tournament and banquet benefit the Boys and Girls Club.

July 4, 2009- Family 4th Celebration- Dothan’s biggest one-day event! Each of the past two years the festival has drawn over 10,000 people to celebrate the 4th of July. The car show attracted over 140 cars, and there were 20 bands on 3 different stages in 2008. Hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Dothan, all proceeds from the event are given back to the community through charitable contributions to childrens’ charities and programs.

December 5, 2009 - Downtown Christmas Celebration- Various downtown events including a the Christmas tree lighting, holiday spectacular show at the historic Opera House and street fair complete with vendors, entertainment, snow zone, dog fashion show, and much more. (All proceeds benefit The Downtown Group, a 501 C (3) non-profit.) Last year’s attendance at the street festival was between 9,000 and 10,000, and admission is free for the tree lighting and festival (nominal admission fee for the Holiday Spectacular.)
